Industry Trends
A personal emergency response system (PERS) is a signaling device that summons help during an emergency. Although PERS vary in specifications, the most common configuration has three main components, an electronic hardware in the home that allows the client to request assistance, a centralized emergency response center receiving client calls and protocols and staff to assess and dispatch appropriate help. The hardware is a light-weight, battery-powered device, worn by the wearer as an accessory, and many companies are offering them in innovative forms such as the bracelet or necklace. When a wearer needs help, button on the device is pressed that generates and transmits signals to the console. The console automatically dials one or more emergency telephone numbers as set by the wearer. Most emergency systems are programmed to connect the emergency response center, whenever the button on wearer’s device is pressed. The center will then try to find out the nature of emergency. They also may review wearer’s medical history and check who should be notified.
Personal Emergency Response Systems Market, By Region, 2018 – 2026 (USD Million)
One can rent, lease or purchase a PERS. However, it has been noted that many insurance companies don’t cover up for the equipment, and the few that pay require a doctor’s recommendation. Also, some hospitals and social service agencies may subsidize the device for low-income users. Although it was first developed for older adults, it is now being used for people with chronic illness and those with disabilities, who want to maintain their independence and live in their own homes. Some parents are also insisting on using the system for monitoring children at homes.
The global personal emergency response systems market was valued to be US$ 6606.28 Mn in 2017 and is anticipated to be US$ 8641.65 Mn by 2022.
Personal Emergency Response Systems Market, by Components
Among different components of a PERS, the hardware component holds the largest market share in 2017, owing to introduction of various innovative wearables and the availability of wide range of rented and owned systems in the market. Hardware components are now capable of predictive or automatic fall detection and can connect the elderly to their caregivers and medical professionals within a short time period. The hardwares can be purchased, rented, or leased on monthly or yearly basis. Their prices begin at US$ 200 and can go all the way up to over US$ 1,500. The cost of the entire PERS mainly depends on what type of hardware is chosen and what type of service is purchased. Also, companies have introduced innovative necklaces, pendants, bracelets and even watches in the market so that they can be worn outside home premises and are travel friendly.
Personal Emergency Response Systems Market, by Region
The region of North America is at the forefront among others in PERS market as a steep increase has been observed in geriatric population and people suffering with Alzheimer’s disease in United States. As per the Population Reference Bureau, average U.S. life expectancy increased from 68 years in 1950 to 79 years in 2013, due to the reduction in mortality at older ages. Also, it has been estimated that the demand for elder care will also rise in the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease. At present, the number of elderly suffering with Alzheimer is 7 million, which is expected to double up by 2050. Also, an increase in the number of service provider companies particularly in regions such as California, Texas and Ohio that are offering services at competitive rates are further driving the growth in the region.

At Absolute Markets Insights, we are engaged in building both global as well as country specific reports. As a result, the approach taken for deriving the estimation and forecast for a specific country is a bit unique and different in comparison to the global research studies. In this case, we not only study the concerned market factors & trends prevailing in a particular country (from secondary research) but we also tend to calculate the actual market size & forecast from the revenue generated from the market participants involved in manufacturing or distributing the any concerned product. Similar analysis will be followed by other countries. Our scope of the report changes with different markets.
Our research study is mainly implement through a mix of both secondary and primary research. Various sources such as industry magazines, trade journals, and government websites and trade associations are reviewed for gathering precise data.
