A personal emergency response system (PERS) is a signaling device that summons help during an emergency. Although PERS vary in specifications, the most common configuration has three main components, an electronic hardware in the home that allows the client to request assistance, a centralized emergency response center receiving client calls and protocols and staff to assess and dispatch appropriate help.  The hardware is a light-weight, battery-powered device, worn by the wearer as an accessory, and many companies are offering them in innovative forms such as the bracelet or necklace. When a wearer needs help, button on the device is pressed that generates and transmits signals to the console. The console automatically dials one or more emergency telephone numbers as set by the wearer. Most emergency systems are programmed to connect the emergency response center, whenever the button on wearer’s device is pressed. The center will then try to find out the nature of emergency. They also may review wearer’s medical history and check who should be notified.
